Answers to your questions
-
Where is Green Light Driving Academy located? We are located in the heart of Waldorf at the Hamilton Centre at 3261 Old Washington Road. Our classroom is on the 3rd floor in Suite 3033-B.
-
How long does it take to complete the driver's education course? That depends on the student--but COMAR regulations state that the course (classroom and behind the wheel) should be completed 18 weeks from the first day of class unless the student requests an extension. Successful completion is the completion of the 30-hour classroom course (in-person or online) and 6 hours behind the wheel with a licensed instructor. Students should note that it is not likely they will go into behind the wheel immediately, and there is often a significant wait. Taking the driver's education course when your learner's permit holding period is close to ending or when your permit is about to expire is highly advised against--however, if you do just be prepared for a wait.
-
What happens if I miss a class?UNIT ONE IS MANDATORY. If you miss a class you must schedule to make it up in an available class when the unit is taught again. For example: A different unit is taught in each class. In a Monday-Friday class, the second Monday is always Unit 6. If a student misses Unit 6, they would have to make-up unit 6 the next time it is taught--at minimum 2 weeks later. Additionally, the final exam can't be taken until all classes are complete.
-
What materials will I need for class? You will need: Rookie Driving Handbook Maryland Driver's Manual. An electronic device. Pen/pencil/highlighter A copy of your permit (required for behind the wheel)
-
When are classes offered?Classes are offered year-round. Winter, Fall, and Spring classes are held in the evenings and on weekends. Summer break classes (according to CCPS calendar) are held morning, afternoon, evening and weekends.
-
How much is the driver's education course and how do I pay for it?Driver's education at Green Light Driving Academy is $425 which covers the 30-hour classroom instruction and 6-hour behind the wheel. Classroom ONLY is $275. This means that once you have completed the classroom portion, you have the freedom to find and complete behind the wheel elsewhere. All registration and payments are completed online.
-
What other services do you offer?Other than the driver's education course, we offer private driving lessons and usage of our instruction vehicles for the skills test. Other services will be added in the future to include the Driver Improvement Program, and Alcohol & Drug Education Program
-
Do I need a learner's permit to take driver's education? You do not need a learner's permit to complete the classroom portion of driver's education. It is REQUIRED before getting into the instructor vehicle for behind the wheel training.
-
Is behind the wheel booked for 6 months? No. The behind the wheel calendar currently opens on December 1, April 1, and August 1. We are never booked for 6 months. If you visit the calendar and it says "no availability for 6 months" it simply means the appointments for the current calendar are booked. HOWEVER, students are told in class to document their 18 weeks mark. If they will have met all requirements (9 month holding period AND a minimum of 60 LOGGED PRACTICE HOURS) they should email info@greenlightda.com The email should state the student's name, date you attended class, date you got your learner's permit AND number of LOGGED practice hours have been completed. *Student must have logged hours to show the instructor AND adequate skills to complete the lessons
